My research concerns citizen science, volunteering and participation, especially around topics of nature, environment and landscape. I aim to bring the perspectives of (active) citizens into focus, especially their motivations and experiences.
My PhD research drew on quantitative methods to investigate the profile, motivations and experiences of Dutch green volunteers, and as a postdoc I carried out qualitative research into the potential of ornithological citizen science to foster environmental citizenship.
I'm currently active within the Academic Collaborative Center on Climate & Energy, where my work addresses participation and justice in the energy and climate transition.
Working with partners from practice is core to my research approach. Organisations that I have collaborated with include SoortenNL and the Dutch species organisations, LandschappenNL, Vogelbescherming Nederland, Naturalis and Rijkswaterstaat.
