Universities are traditionally places of truth-telling in open and critical debate. As an organization, i.e. Tilburg University staff, students, and guests, we are responsible for a safe learning and working environment.
Tilburg University's Code of Conduct is an important guideline for the common pursuit of an academic culture in which we help and address each other in a conscientious and respectful manner. Conduct such as discrimination, aggression, violence, threats, bullying, gossiping, or intimidation is naturally undesirable at the university. The Catholic tradition in which the university and the School of Theology stand also honors respect for the dignity of every person and the principle that "no one is forced to act against his conscience" (Dignitatis humanae, 1).
What if things do go wrong and you face undesirable or transgressive behavior?
As an employee & PhD candidates:
- You can engage in conversation with the person concerned.
- You can contact your manager.
- You can contact your HR advisor for advice.
- You can appeal to a university confidential advisor
- You can file a complaint with the complaints committee undesirable behavior
- You can appeal to the ombuds officer
As a student & external PhD candidates:
- You can engage in conversation with the person concerned.
- You can contact the TST study advisor, Marielle Snijder. As the first point of contact, she can confidentially guide you to the most appropriate channel.
- You can consult the Student Support Roadmap or contact the dean of students
- You can call on a confidential advisor
- You can file a complaint with the complaints committee undesirable behavior
You can also find where to go and when on this roadmap. You do not have to follow all the stops on the roadmap. If you prefer to skip a stop, you can, the most important thing is that you discuss your concerns.
