Table tennis

Table tennis developed alongside various other branches of sport, notably tennis of course. Like many other sports, table tennis began as a frivolous social entertainment. It seems likely that it was first played in England towards the end of the nineteenth century, using improvised equipment.

In table tennis, ball control and the spin effect are extremely important (perhaps more so than in any other sport). The ball is very light, while most rackets are faced with textured rubber. If you would like to learn more about this and the many other aspects of the sport, simply come along to one of the training sessions. They are open to everyone in possession of a sports pass. If space allows, it is also possible to play individually in hall 2. Equipment is available at the front desk.
