Research Masters and PhD programs

Research Master's programs
Tilburg University offers six Research Master's programs for ambitious students. The Research Master is a two-year Master's degree. It gives you a solid, thorough training in the art of thinking: clear reasoning, critical analysis, deciphering complex subjects, and techniques such as conveying your thoughts accurately.
As a Master's graduate you will be able to make a valuable contribution to the intellectual debate, both amongst colleagues and in wider social circles. In many cases a Research Master prepares you for a PhD program and an academic career. Usually, a Research Master shortens the PhD program by one year.

After you have completed a (Research) Master, there are several ways to obtain a PhD degree at Tilburg University:
PhD candidate (employed by Tilburg University)This category of PhD candidates are temporary employees of Tilburg University, usually for a period of three or four years. The Dutch term for this category is Promovendus.
External PhD candidatePhD candidates in this category are not employed by Tilburg University. The link with Tilburg University is primarily through the supervisor.
PhD candidate with grantThis category consists of international PhD candidates who are not employed by Tilburg University, but have a grant which allows them to carry out their research.
Dual PhDDual PhD candidates are partially employed by Tilburg University and partially employed by another party (e.g. a company or government agency).
