Problems paying tuition fees / weighted fees

Make sure that you have enough money in your account when payment of tuition fees or weighted fees is due.

Direct debit payments

The dates on which payments are collected can be found on the website 'Payment method tuition or weighted fees' under the heading 'Payment method Dutch or SEPA bank account'. If you have insufficient funds in your account, a payment cannot be collected. This means that you have not fulfilled your payment obligation.

The university cannot execute the direct debit again once it has been reversed. Therefore, you will have to transfer the due amount yourself, for which you can use the enclosed link in the AcceptEmail

If you fail to transfer the outstanding tuition fees or weighted fees before the deadline mentioned in the reminder email, the corresponding Tilburg University account will be blocked.

How to pay the tuition fees / weighted fees in the future

If you fail to make full payment of the tuition fees or weighted fees due before the deadlines in the reminder emails, the Head of Student Administration will terminate your enrollment as of the second month following on the reminder. If you are deregistered, you still owe the outstanding tuition or weighted fees for the period you were enrolled.

Consequently, payment by direct debit will no longer be possible for you. This regulation is stated in Article 7.2 of the Registration and Tuition Fee Regulations.

You need to transfer the total tuition fees / weighted fees in full by personal remittance. Please use the financial details which you can find on the website 'Payment method tuition or weighted fees'. If you fall into arrears and fail to meet the payment deadline mentioned in the reminder, the claim will be handed over to the debt collection agency and additional costs (incl. VAT) will be added.

Arrears due to exceptional circumstances

If you realize that you will not be able to meet your scheduled payments on time due to exceptional circumstances, payment arrangements might be made in certain cases.

The university defines exceptional circumstances as unforeseen circumstances beyond your control, such as illness or extraordinary family circumstances. Financial problems do not qualify as exceptional circumstances. If you want to study, you know in advance that you must set aside funds for this purpose. Besides a full time program, you cannot work full time. Do not assume that if you start with insufficient funds, you will have the chance to earn enough money during your studies. Terminating your enrollment and earning enough money to fund your studies before you continue is your only realistic option under these circumstances.

If there are any special circumstances that prevent you from meeting your payment obligations, please send an email to the Dean of Students. Keep in mind that you must be able to prove these circumstances in writing.
If the Dean of Students gives a positive advice, a payment arrangement will be made with you. For this, you must sign a payment agreement.

Consequences of arrears

If you do not pay the overdue installment on time, your registration will be terminated. You will no longer be allowed to take classes or exams and you will lose access to your webmail, Canvas, and other facilities, as well as your entitlement to student grants and loans and your student travel pass.

Once your enrollment has been terminated due to payment arrears, you can only renew your enrollment once you have paid the installments you owe, in addition to the rest of the tuition fees or weighted fees for the current academic year.

Once registration has been terminated, it is NO LONGER possible to make payment arrangements.
