Prof. John List

He then served as an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, at the University of Arizona, and then as a professor at the University of Maryland in 2001. In 2004, he became a professor in the Economics Department of the University of Chicago, where he was awarded an endowed professorship in 2011 for his work in the area of field experiments.

As a pioneer, List has great significance in that area because he succeeded in setting up sound experiments in the real world (for example, with passengers of Unites Airlines and Uber), rather than relying on laboratory tests. In his eulogy, List was described as "a true pioneer in experimental field research," whose innovative work has "finally made it possible to test behavioral economic theory in everyday practice... He has raised this research area to a higher level with his originality, expertise and impact, and he is an inspiration to many."
